Education & Leisure Facility
Client: Graham Construction on behalf of Fife Council
Project Value: £2m
The Michael Woods Sports and Leisure Centre is a council run Leisure Facility for the Glenrothes area. A 5000sqm facility encompassing wet and dry facilities. It provides a 8 lane championship 25m main pool, a training pool with moveable floor, fitness suite, health suite, aerobics suite, 2 multi-purpose spaces, squash courts, sports hall and cafe with associated changing, admin and plant spaces.
Acting as a specialist subcontractor, MIZ were engaged to provide a roofing and cladding solution for the new Leisure Centre. MIZ provided Paroc insulated structural wall panels to create a highly fire rated external envelope and form an airtight seal to the building. The Paroc panels were then framed out and clad mostly in Trespa Rainscreen Panels. Rodeca polycarbonate wall cladding was implemented as a rainscreen façade primarily at ground floor level but forming feature areas around the building. MIZ provided a selection of roofing systems from Icopal Single Polymeric Roofing, to Kalzip 65/400 Standing Seam, to Sealeco Green Roofing Systems. Each element of the MIZ package of approximately 5000sqm of roofing and 5100sqm of wall cladding has been individually tailored to the project. Over 1000 bespoke panels and flashings were designed to create a uniquely bespoke solution.
MIZ were invited during construction to become involved in a number of internal packages. These included the works to the Sports Hall, the formation of a feature wall and the bulkheads to the swimming pool which were all formed with secret fix Trespa, a combination of helping hand brackets and lamination was required to deal with the various base surface treatments.
